Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). Then, she became a Washington general correspondent with NBC News two years later. 1981 was the year she began reporting on for the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional Correspondent. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell has been a panelist as well as anchor of the TV show Meet the Press. She served as a panelist during the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell reported on the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as fiscal tax reforms, and arms control. She traveled together with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan many times for summits, and to discuss matters like the Iran Contra controversy.
